More Dux Bellorum Saxons

These figures have been in process off and on for a couple of weeks, and yesterday I sat down at the painting desk and did something else entirely. This morning, though, I finished up the last two of these. As always, I'm playing around with the painting style to find something that doesn't emphasize the shortcomings of these homecast figures...

    A burnt umber wash and gloss varnish does wonders but these look good as is from here.

      I have used gallongs (it seems) of burnt umber washes on 28mm Old Glory and other Dark Ages figures in the past. I should give it a try; my untested assumption is that the wash works better with sharper details, unlike these homecast figures.
